Today was gorgeous outside so every opportunity possible, Lia was outside playing. She was loving it and really enjoying the fact that she was able to run around in just her undies all day. Ahh, the blessings of being two...
Giving her car a bath
Lia has been doing very well having independent outside time with the back door propped open so I can hear her and the window blinds open so I can see her. It works wonderfully because I can work in the kitchen and living room and still see what she is doing outside. Today she was fascinated with the dirt in the raised vegetable garden (since there is nothing planted there now) and was burying her baby (try not to read too much into that okay?). Well, she comes running inside and tells me "Mama! Adegater!" I said "Uh, what did you say Lia?" She replies with exasperation: "Mama! See Adegater SNATE!" Cue mom freak out. My child just told me to come see an alligator snake and I immediately think back to this moment:
The day in August 2012 when we found a coral snake in our backyard within feet of our then 9 month old Lillia...
So I grabbed Lia's hand and asked her to show me her "adegator snate" and my heart is literally pounding out of my chest. She leads me to the raised vegetable garden and points down the little space between the house and the garden box. I mentally prepare myself, heart still pounding and wondering what the heck I'm going to do if it is a real snake... and take a peak. This is what I saw.
I don't think I've ever been SO HAPPY to see one of these little guys as I was today! And, in the same moment, I also realized how appropriate the description "alligator snake" was to describe this little lizard. Lia was delighted the rest of the afternoon looking for her friend.
Here is an audio clip of a message I sent to Todd when telling him this funny story of the day.
Needless to say, today Lia learned the word 'lizard.'
Hysterical!!!!!!!!! Your kid is awesome!
