Sydney's Tree

When Sydney passed away last fall, we had the idea to plant a tree out back in her memory.  We finally found the perfect tree and planted it last weekend.

The kids were happy to get another flowering tree and even more pleased when they saw the name of the tree is a "cotton candy red bud" - done and done.

While we were at the store and checking out, Lia told at least 3 very nice strangers that we were buying this pretty tree for our dog that died.  The look on their faces confused her - "Mom, why do they look sad and saying sorry?  This is a nice thing we are doing for Sydney!  It should be happy, right?  I feel happy about this tree for Sydney because she's dead now and the tree will be nice to remember her."  Ahh the simple life of a child.  :)

It is a little baby tree and luckily the ground was nice and soft from a recent rain, so planting was no big deal.  Todd knocked it out of the park while the girls and I supervised.  :)

I'm happy to have something tangible to remind us of Sydney and serve as a living memory of her.  Eventually we will probably mark the tree in some way, but haven't quite decided what to do yet.

Miss you sweet pup.
