Deck Fairies

Lots of fun things happening around here!  Our biggest project on the house to date is (basically) finished!  We had been interested in having a deck put in as an extension to our patio for awhile now and we finally did it!

The weather did not cooperate, so the week long project stretched out over about a month.  We've had SO MUCH RAIN.  The beginning part was the longest because they had to measure, plan and dig for the footers that would hold up the deck.  To do this, it couldn't be sopping wet.

Getting started!!

Testing out the step down from the existing patio.

Almost there!

Done!!
Now, they built it exactly as we wanted them to, however, we did not truly account for the degree of slope our yard has.  So, we need another step added to go down into the yard because that is quite a big drop!  But, it is usable and they are returning soon to add the other step.

We took the railing down on the original patio to open it up to the deck and it was so awesome to see just how big this space had become!  A true outdoor living and dining area.  So happy to get the picnic table up and in a place where we can actually use it.

I had been planning the furniture and layout of the deck since we started and was excited to put it all together.  We are waiting for another chair to come from Overstock, but other than that, we are set!  Todd and his dad worked hard to put that railing in along the back edge and we have a big post ready for some patio string lights!

As soon as we possibly could, we got out there and had happy hour and dinner on the deck!  The kids thought this was the most fun thing ever.

We have a few little things remaining (painting the picnic table, staining the deck) but those things have to wait for drier weather.

This past weekend, GG and Pop Pop came for a visit and we were excited to show them our new space outside!  Rick was recruited for the railing project and GG came with me and the kids to build a fairy garden!

We went out to lunch together and then to Michaels to buy the accessories for our new fairy playland.  The kids had a ball looking and everything and I had to set some limits on just how much was going to fit in the planter I had set aside for the garden.  When we got home, they happily set everything up and were fighting over it/playing wonderfully with it for the rest of the weekend.
