Camp Texlake

Lia's girl scout troop was so successful during their cookie sale that they earned enough money to go on their first campout!  The girl scouts have a summer camp location up in north Austin that they open up at random weekends in the off season for events.  We signed up to go to "My First Campout" specifically designed for Daisies and Brownies.  Lia was nervous, but happy I was going to go with her.  I was nervous trying to figure out how I was going to get through 3 days with ten 6&7 year olds without the assistance of wine!  lol

When we arrived, the cabins were very nice and reminded me of summer camp.  The mattresses left much to be desired - next time I'll be bringing a camping mat to put on top!

We had some time to get settled and play before the evening activities began.  WE hung out at the cabin and Lia kicked everyone's butts at Apples to Apples.  Super fun.  WE took off after that to have our first group meeting in the dining hall.  The only thing that was tough is that they scheduled these little ones all the way until 10pm!  YIKES.

I brought my iPod for Lia to listen to at bedtime - total hit.  :)
The next day we were up and out for breakfast and then the activities started for the day.  The camp had set up 4 blocks of activity time and we were able to take advantage of everything they had to offer.

These are Lia's main buddies in GS - Jaidyn, Lynnlee, and Burklee.  And yes, they really are that much taller than her.  :)

Edible campfire!

My favorite picture of the whole group of girls.

Much to everyone's delight, Lia caught a butterfly!!
Lia quickly became known as the climbing bug kid - every parent was shocked at how high she could confidently climb in trees (or even up the cabin walls) and her absolute lack of fear with any bugs.  It was funny to see the other kids scream and run away while my kid is in the middle picking up some random beetle or preying mantis.

Beautiful view from the dining room

Activity #2!  Yarn dolls.

Hay ride!!

Our girls were too young to do the horse activity and actually ride the horses, but they did get to go visit them and feed them a treat.  Lia is not my horse lover, so it took her some time to get up the guts to actually feed it.  Below is her face afterward.  So cute.

Nature hike!

Lia up a tree.

The whole crew.
Overall it was a really fun time. None of the adults slept well - I think just trying to make sure the kids didn't fall out of the bunks or need help in the middle of the night.  I think another trip may be in the cards for the younger girls next year!
