Yesterday we were able to come home!! I think Todd and I were both holding back excitement about getting discharged from the hospital. Always on high alert for any changes that may keep either of the babies in the hospital longer. The nurse came in to check on the babies in the morning and Halle's temperature was lower than it had been in days. Oh. Crap. So, like true Gates mission mode fashion, we got Halle on skin to skin with me asap to try and pull her temperature up to normal again. The nurse said that if skin to skin brings it up within an hour we were still good to go. Pressure was on. So, I snuggled as close as I could with Halle for the next hour (which was really nice actually!) and sure enough, she came right back up. Whew.
The pediatrician came in next and said she was a little worried about jaundice in both girls and wanted some blood work done. Oh. Crap. So, blood was taken and we waited a few more hours for the results and everything came back great! At this point there was nothing left to hold us there! Hooray!
We got packed up (putting tiny babies in giant car seats takes time!) and we were on our way!
It felt surreal leaving the hospital with these babies and almost like we were doing something wrong by leaving with tiny, under five pound babies... It was a celebrated moment and all the nurses came to say their goodbyes.
I feel so happy, blessed, lucky, and infinitely proud of the fact that these little ones are so healthy and avoided any higher level of care during the entire hospital stay. Unbelievable! They are amazing.

Within five minutes of arriving home, Todd and I realized we had to take extra measures to protect the babies from Lia's (sometimes overbearing and dangerous) loving gestures! Here was our solution! It is working great.
